The Promise

I fell in love with you so many years ago

That you made my life more than complete

For I promise to never let you go

And there will be no other that will ever compete

When I see your name or hear it said

It makes my heart jump and tingle almost dizzy with love

I will promise you this to always love you and keep you safe

I have always said you are my angel and gift from God like a beautiful white dove

I promised your father and our heavenly God

To take care of you and hold you dear

I promise you that no matter if I am far or near

That my love for you will be felt

I may have never been the perfect man

But I never felt I could love like I can

You showed me how to care and love

So I promise you this my sweet best friend

That no matter where I am you will always know that I love you

Some may say this is kind of sappy, after almost 40 years with my best friend, my wife, it makes you sit back and think of how much you care about a person so much.
